In 2021, as in 2020, the Ricky Road Run is a bit different to previous years. Although we very much hope that mass events will be allowed by the autumn, we feel it is more appropriate to retain the virtual model for this year, allowing more flexibility for runners to choose a route where they feel comfortable whilst following social distancing guidelines.

How do I take part?

2 – (Optional) If you have a Strava account, click “I’m in” on the event page: The event can also be found on the WaterAid runners Club page (Explore – Clubs, then search for “WaterAid Runners”)

How much does it cost to take part?
The registration fee is £10.

I can’t/don’t want to take part, but can I still donate?
Yes, absolutely! Our JustGiving campaign allows you to donate directly to WaterAid.

Do I have to do extra fundraising?
You are not required to do any extra fundraising, but we’d really like you to, and are encouraging people to raise money for WaterAid.

Can I run as part of a group?
You must ensure you are following all current guidelines around reducing the spread of Covid-19, and as a result you may not be able to run as a group. You can, of course, share your progress with friends remotely!

Is there a medal available this year?
Yes! We will be sending out a medal and a tubular bandana to every registered participant who completes the run between 16th July and 2nd August. Please note that you must inform us that you have completed the run, either directly or by logging it on Strava, in order to receive your medal and bandana. Medals and bandanas will only be sent to those in mainland UK.

When will I receive my medal and bandana?
We will send the packs out as soon as we can after the end of the race period (2nd August) and you should receive it in early September. The delay is due to manufacture and postage times. If you have not received your pack by the end of September, please do get in touch with us on

Update – Unfortunately there have been some delays in manufacturing and we are now expecting to receive the tubular bandanas in early October. We will send them out as soon as we can, so please look out for your parcel and get in touch if you haven’t received it by the end of October.

How can I share photos of my training/run?
We would love to see how you are getting on with training, and your run photos so we can celebrate with you! If you are posting on social media, please tag us (@rickyroadrun on Facebook and Instagram, @ricky_road_run on Twitter) and use #rickyroadrun. Alternatively, you can send them to us directly at Please note, as per our terms and conditions, any photos shared with us may be used for promotion and publicity.

Do I have to do my run in a particular area?
No, you can complete your run anywhere you choose. Please make sure that your route is safe and you are capable of completing it, we don’t want you to get hurt.

Is there a time limit?
No, you can run as fast or as slow as you are able, you can even walk if you prefer! The only limit is that your run must take place between 16th July and 2nd August.

Will there be a winner/prizes?
As we are unable to hold the race as a single event this year, we will not be able to declare a winner and there will be no prizes, although all participants who complete and declare their run will receive a medal and tubular bandana.

Can I break my run up into several smaller runs?
No, you need to complete your run as a single event, although there is no time limit, so if you want to stop for a break in the middle that’s ok.

What is your ARC race permit number?
ARC 21/200
